5 Steps to Connect to Safety

When we are feeling triggered, it can be so helpful to bring calm to our nervous system if we take a moment to connect to safety. Today I want to share 5 simple steps to help you feel safe and regulate your nervous system.

1. Slow Down

2. Look around and notice that there are no present threats.

3. Take a deep breath. Hold as long as possible. Release.

4. Engage your five senses. What do I: See, Hear, Touch, Taste, Smell?

5. Pause and let yourself feel what is happening in your body.

Learning how to connect to safety in my body has been so healing for me.

I grew up in a lot of fear and it tool a serious toll on my body.

From a young age I learned to always plan for the worst. Always be ready for the world to end. Always be ready for the people you love to leave you.

Learning to notice moments of safety in the ordinary moments of life has been so important in rewiring my nervous system towards regulation. Towards noticing safety.

I encourage you right now to take a moment to connect to safety following the above steps.

If you do hit the button below and share your experience. I would love to hear! Also, if you would like help reach out. Let’s work together!
